Faith Claman

Associate Professor, School of Nursing

Faith Claman received her bachelor of science in nursing from Duke University, master of science in nursing from Yale University, and doctor of nursing practice from Case Western Reserve University. She previously taught at University of Washington, Emory University, Case Western Reserve University, George Washington University, and Marymount University. Faith’s academic research focuses on innovative teaching modalities, global nursing and inter-professional education, and women’s health care across the lifespan. Her teaching philosophy focuses on academic rigor and intellectual curiosity as a foundation for life-long learning delivered in a compassionate, student-centric learning environment. Faith strives to enrich students’ understanding of complex concepts, facilitate deeper thinking, and provide a framework of professional responsibility. She strongly believes in providing compassionate and quality health care for our most vulnerable populations. As a certified nurse practitioner in both pediatrics and women’s health, Faith has delivered health care to marginalized populations both nationally and abroad for over 30 years. She looks forward to incorporating these values into the School of Nursing’s curriculum by establishing an international service learning opportunity at the University of Portland.
