Katie Danielson

Katie DanielsonPrior to coming to the University of Portland, Katie Danielson was a post-doctoral fellow at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Katie studies early childhood language and literacy, ambitious literacy instruction, teacher education, and the integration of justice into practice. She is particularly interested in understanding the connections between teacher educator pedagogy and subsequent candidate enactment with culturally and linguistically diverse children. Katie earned her Ph.D. at the University of Washington, focusing on literacy and teacher education. She also holds a M.Ed. from the University of Oregon and an Ed.M. from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Katie is a member of the Core Practice Consortium, which brings together teacher educators from across institutions, disciplines, and theoretical perspectives to grapple with questions about how better to prepare novice teachers. She began her career in education as a teacher in San Francisco and in Denver.
