Major Jessie Collins is excited to be joining the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program at the University of Portland. Maj. Collins is from Kannapolis, North Carolina, a suburb north of Charlotte, North Carolina. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy, where he served on an aircraft carrier stationed out of Norfolk, Virginia. Upon completion of his service, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and enrolled in the Army ROTC program where he received his military commissioning. His military assignments have taken him to numerous duty stations around the world and he has served in various leadership and staff positions commensurate with his rank. His most recent assignment was to Fort Benning, Georgia as the Operations Officer for 5th Battalion, 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade, which is a new organization designed to train, advise, and assist foreign security forces. Maj. Collins has a total of four deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is currently completing his master’s degree from Kansas State University in Adult Learning and Leadership. When not working, Maj. Collins likes to travel and explore his new surroundings to sample the local cuisine and sites.
