Renee Crowgey

Visiting Assistant Professor, Psychological Sciences

Renee Crowgey received dual B.A. degrees from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in Spanish and psychology before receiving her master's degree in clinical psychology from Wheaton College. After years of work as a licensed professional counselor and clinical addictions specialist, working primarily in community-based non-profit agencies, she began her academic career teaching an abnormal psychology course. Her passion for bringing real-world clinical experience into the classroom was well-received by her students and led her to pursue teaching further. Since her first course, she's taught consistently in higher education for 10 years and joins the University of Portland community after teaching full-time at Pacific University for the last three years. During her time at Pacific University, she created a clinical track for students and developed courses in counseling psychology course and the psychology of happiness, and developed and supervised a clinical practicum for seniors. Her students often describe her teaching as down-to-earth and easy to follow with so many examples that it makes the concepts hard to forget. When she's not in the classroom, she loves to play tennis on her USTA women's team and go on neighborhood bike rides with her family.
