Sergeant First Class Wesley Averkamp was born in Dubuque, Iowa and entered active military service in 2002 at Ft. Benning, Georgia. After completing One Station Unit Training, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was then assigned to US Army Recruiting command and served as a recruiter in Dallas, Texas. SFC Averkamp has held leadership positions ranging from Team Leader to Company First Sergeant during his seventeen year career in the Army, and has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. SFC Averkamp’s previous assignment was Company First Sergeant in the 25th Infantry Division, 2nd Battalion 35th Infantry Regiment, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. His military education includes: Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Officer Defense, EMT Basic Course, Warrior Leader Course, Army Recruiter, Modern Army Combatives, Pathfinder, Senior Leaders Course, Air Assault, Army Basic Instructor Course, Small Arms Master Gunner, and Combat Life Savers. His awards include: Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal (50LC), Army Achievement Medal, Valorous Unit Award (10LC), Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Gold Recruiter Badge. SFC Averkamp enjoys trail running, disc golf, fishing, camping, and any outdoor activity.
