Elizabeth Schmahl, M.S.N.

Instructor, School of Nursing and Health Innovations

Elizabeth Schmahl

Elizabeth Schmahl graduated from the University of Portland with her bachelor of science in nursing with minors in Spanish and biology in 2016. She soon found her calling in a field that combined two of her passions – women’s health and biology/genetics. Elizabeth worked as a care coordinator for an infertility clinic for over five years. During this time, she received the nurse certificate from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. She spent much of her time at the clinic training new nurses and other clinic staff before officially becoming the clinic’s clinical educator. This love for teaching motivated Elizabeth to complete her master of science in nursing with a focus in nursing education at Drexel University. Elizabeth started her path to academia when she returned to UP as a clinical instructor working with senior nursing students. This experience confirmed her desire to make the switch to undergraduate teaching full time. She loves connecting with students and supporting them as they find their own niche in the nursing field. Outside of teaching and nursing, Elizabeth enjoys reading contemporary fiction, camping in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and fixing up her 1920s bungalow.
