Gilna Samuel

Before joining the University of Portland, Gilna Samuel was an assistant professor of finance at California State University, San Bernardino where she taught introductory finance courses, the student managed investment fund course and financial data analytics. She obtained her Ph.D. in finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She holds a master's degree in statistics from Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Morgan State University. Her research focuses on corporate finance. She has papers that cover areas such as governance, payout policy, diversification, and hedge fund activism. She also has projects centered on the textual analysis of financial disclosures. Her research has been presented at several national and international conferences including the Financial Management Association and the American Finance Association annual meetings, and the World Finance Conference.
