Kayla Delventhal's educational background includes an undergraduate degree in ecology and evolutionary biology and a graduate degree in botany and plant pathology. Her graduate research explored how hidden microbial communities in plants (the plant microbiome) contribute to the health of important food crops. Her prior teaching experience includes serving as an environmental educator for the Appalachian Mountain Club and a field instructor for Ecology Project International in Mexico and Costa Rica. Kayla is passionate about the intersection between biology and environmental studies. Biological concepts underpin humanity's greatest challenges today and bolstering scientific literacy can empower students and the public to understand these challenges and take action. Kayla is also an artist and avid outdoors enthusiast. When Portland takes a break from the rain, you can find Kayla rock climbing, mountain biking, or hiking with her dog.
