Amanda Orcutt, MSN, RN is a Visiting Instructor at the University of Portland, School of Nursing and Health Innovations. She graduated from Arizona State University (ASU) with her B.S.N. in 2015 and has since found great joy in discovering various specialties and passions in the nursing profession. She has experience as a registered nurse in the fields of telemetry, neonatal intensive care, and travel nursing. During her five years as a nurse in the NICU, she discovered her passion for teaching while mentoring transition to practice nursing students. This inspired her to become involved in unit education initiatives and obtain her M.S.N. in nursing education. Before joining the University of Portland as a nursing instructor, her previous roles in nursing education include adjunct faculty at ASU in their lab and simulation department and some time as a nursing professional development specialist at Shriners Children’s. In her new journey at the University of Portland, Amanda hopes to support and inspire the next generation of nurses by sharing her passion for the nursing profession and encouraging her students to find their own calling in nursing. Her teaching philosophy focuses on student-centered learning and collaborating to find innovative ways to deliver both evidence-based and compassionate patient care.
