Gary Mitchell is a Professor of Operations & Technology Management at the University of Portland's Pamplin School of Business. He earned his B.A. in Psychology and Studio Art (Photography), an M.B.A in Finance from the University of California, Riverside, and his Ph.D. in Operations Management from the University of Washington. Dr. Mitchell's teaching experience includes Project Management, Operations & Supply Chain Management, Advanced Inventory Theory and Practice and Analytics. His current research interests include resource allocation in uncertain and highly risky projects, monitoring projects and determining project status, and the impact of random shocks on production and service systems and supply chains. He is the co-author (with Ted Klastorin, University of Washington) of Project Management: A risk management approach (SAGE Publishing).
In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Mitchell has twenty years of experience in project management, supply chain management and information systems design and development. His professional accomplishments include founding a successful supply chain management solutions company and national responsibility for inventory management consulting (retail and wholesale companies) at KPMG. His hobbies and personal interests are varied including martial arts (he holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Hap Ki Do) and being an avid photographer. In his spare time, he plays the bari sax and clarinet with Jazz Express, alto and soprano sax with the Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band, alto sax and clarinet with the Lake Oswego Millennium Dance Band, and the flute, ukulele, guitar and harmonica just for fun.
