Ciriello is a Dominican Sister of Akron, Ohio who earned a Ph.D. in educational research from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She served as the University's School of Education dean from 1996 to 2010 and has a number of significant accomplishments to her credit. Among them are the perennial increase in the placement of University student teachers to Catholic schools, assistance in the implementation and management of the University's Pacific Alliance for Catholic Education (PACE) service program, and overseeing the addition of a graduate program for educational administration. Under her leadership, the University became the first private university or college in Oregon accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Ciriello also played a key role in the planning and opening of De La Salle North Catholic High School in 2001. Additionally, she served as President of the Deans and Directors of Teacher Education for the Oregon Independent Colleges Association. Prior to her tenure at the University, Ciriello was a faculty member at The Catholic University of America for nine years. While there, she worked as a coordinator of the graduate education administration program as well as the coordinator of the institution's Catholic School Leadership master's program jointly operated by the CUA and the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. Her national service includes being project editor and creator of a training program for Catholic school administrators co-sponsored by the U.S. Catholic Conference and National Catholic Education Association. In that work, she provided workshops in more than 100 Catholic dioceses. The publication is currently used throughout the country.
