Michele Renninger, MSMS, RN, is an instructor in the Simulated Health Center, University of Portland, School of Nursing and Health Innovations. Prior to joining the UP SHC team in February of 2021, Michele facilitated a thirty-person interdisciplinary team into daily simulations for the University of Arizona, College of Medicine Phoenix. In July of 2020 she earned her master’s degree in multidisciplinary simulation with a specific goal in mind. After over twenty years of nursing she noted significant trends in interdisciplinary teamwork, communication and patient safety in both large and rural clinical sites. Simulation offered the perfect medium to address all these timeless healthcare issues in a safe container. There is dedicated time in the SHC to debrief after each simulation visit in a respectful, courageous, & deeply vulnerable way and that is where her passion lies: to help students become comfortable with the uncomfortable and transition into practice knowing they have the critical reasoning & judgement skills to feather out even the most challenging clinical situations. Michele is currently working with the SHC team to achieve program certification from the Society of Simulation in Healthcare.
