Bill Barnes is an associate professor of economics at the University of Portland's Pamplin School of Business, with a concurrent appointment in the Department of Environmental Science. He earned his PhD in economics at the University of Notre Dame. His research interests include barriers and pathways to clean technology and sustainable work systems, performance outcomes associated with CSR and sustainability, energy and climate change education, and comparative economic institutions. He teaches principles of micro and macroeconomics, environmental economics, and comparative economics in the undergraduate programs. At the graduate level, he teaches economics and metrics for sustainability. His recent work has been published in the Journal of Economic Issues, the Journal of Business and Economics Research, and the Case Journal among others. Professor Barnes chairs the University of Portland Presidential Advisory Committee on Sustainability, and he serves on the board of two local non profits, Focus the Nation and CRAG Law Center. He frequently speaks in the community on issues related to climate change education and climate solutions, including clean technology policy.
