Our LDR 225: Foundations of Leadership Instructors

Meet Kerry Day

"Welcome LDR 225 students!

This will be my 2nd year teaching the LDR 225 course at UP. Previously I have taught leadership courses for several years and 2 other universities. I have lead multiple training programs for student leaders on topics ranging from diversity to conflict management to mental health. One of my major leadership passions is being a StregthsFinder certified facilitator! I believe in the power of focusing on strengths and building oneself up! Outside of this work, my husband and I voluntarily lead a church community. I have lead women’s bible discussions for 20 years and love that work more than anything else. Lastly, I have been a proud French Bulldog mom for over a decade.

I look forward to seeing you all in the future!"

Meet Gina Loschiavo

Hi everyone, my name is Gina Loschiavo and I am looking forward to connecting with you in LDR 225. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and Political Science from Western Oregon University and a Master’s of Science in Higher Education from Florida State University. I am a first generation college student and have called Portland, OR home for almost my whole life. I am starting my ninth year here at University of Portland. I currently serve as the Care Team Coordinator. My role on campus is to offer a little extra support to students who might be having a tough time. My favorite part of serving as a leadership instructor is helping students to understand and explore who they are as leaders and how they can serve as leaders in their communities. When I am not on campus you can usually find me spending time with my daughter Madeline, drinking coffee, or training for my next race. I look forward to seeing you in the classroom this fall!

Meet Michael Wode

I have been at the University of Portland since 2012 as a Hall Director (4 years in Corrado, 3 ½ years in Lund Family, and ½ year in Haggerty and Tyson). I moved here from Chicago after getting my master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago. I grew up in Ohio and received a BA in Psychology from the University of Dayton. And currently am working on my nursing degree right here at UP!

I like the approach we take here at University of Portland. We like to emphasize your strengths and bring in a lens that you are more than just an individual. What you learn here at UP is not in a vacuum and we hope that you will transform the world around you after much self-reflection that we think this leadership certificate provides.

When I am not working full time, studying, or teaching leadership I am playing with my 5 year old son or hanging out with my wife of 11 years! He has a lot of energy and we have fun exploring the world around us. I also enjoy playing board games, building things, and being creative. I can’t wait to meet you!

Meet Dr. Andrew Downs

"I studied psychology and history at Notre Dame before abandoning law school and following my real interests to earn a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Washington State. I enjoy learning and teaching about leadership because it gives us the opportunity to intentionally use our unique gifts to have a positive impact on campus and in our communities. When I’m not busy nerding out about psychology and leadership, I spend my time exploring the beautiful mountains, beaches, and forests of the Pacific Northwest with my family."

Meet Dr. Lara-Zuzan Golesorkhi
