Scholarship Day

University of Portland was founded on the Holy Cross mission to provide a superior, whole-person education that inspires students to use their knowledge to improve the world. Formerly known as Founder’s Day, Scholarship Day honors this commitment and celebrates the groundbreaking work of University of Portland’s students and the generosity of our many donors who make it possible.

On Scholarship Day, we celebrate a day of giving back and moving knowledge forward by honoring our generous donors at the annual Scholarship Luncheon, recognizing the work of current UP scholars at the Awards Breakfast and Student Symposium, and ensuring a strong future for academic excellence at UP with PilotsGive.

Scholarship Day is an annual event dating back to the origins of the University. It was revitalized in 2001 as part of the University’s centennial celebration, and was renamed Scholarship Day in 2025 in recognition of the groundbreaking work of our students past, present, and future. Each year, festivities are kicked off with an awards breakfast for graduating seniors, followed by the Student Symposium (senior panel discussions, presentations, and recitals), and the scholarship Luncheon, where students who receive financial aid from scholarships meet the benefactors whose generosity has helped them attend the university. Starting in 2024, Scholarship Day incorporated PilotsGive, UP’s annual giving event to raise scholarship dollars to allow all current and future Pilots to pursue a University of Portland education, as part of the day’s events.
