Welcome to academic advising at the University of Portland. The University recognizes that the college years are challenging, exhilarating, and life changing for students. The University is committed to providing students with the support and resources they need to make the best choices possible for both their academic career and their life after college. Faculty members at the University of Portland see advising as an integral part of the mission and are available to assist students in making the most of their college experience. Special advisors are assigned for specific purposes, such as preparing for careers in law or applying for nationally competitive scholarships. Although all students are assigned an advisor, they are encouraged to consult with the faculty they encounter both inside and outside the classroom, and even those outside their field. The advising relationship need not be limited to a student's officially assigned advisor.
