Fish Core Team:

The Core Team is a group of student leaders committed to guiding Campus Ministry’s nondenominational Christian community, Fish. The Core Team takes primary responsibility for creating a weekly opportunity for Christian worship, fellowship, and testimony as well as for creating additional opportunities for students to grow within a faith community. Members of the Core Team work in collaboration with one another while seeking input and involvement from members of the greater Fish community. Throughout the year, they also collaborate with fellow Campus Ministry leaders to support the growth of faith community at UP.

Responsibilities/expectations:

  • Attend weekly Core Team meetings, during which the team discusses how Fish is living its mission on campus and develops ideas for deepening Christian fellowship
  • Attend and facilitate weekly Fish gatherings, providing hospitality to those who attend
  • Plan and facilitate community-building events
  • Engage in reflection on one’s own personal faith development
    • Core Team members are also asked to find a spiritual mentor with whom to meet regularly (Campus Ministry can assist with coordinating)
  • Check in regularly with Campus Ministry advisor
  • Support the July “Leaven” immersion for freshmen (does not require on-campus presence over the summer)
  • Engage in collaborative projects and conversations with other Campus Ministry leaders

 Applicant qualities:

  • Demonstrated interest in the mission and vision of the Fish community
  • Ability to sustain commitment to Core Team role and communicate consistently with team members and staff advisor
  • Desire to think creatively about developing fellowship through faith on campus
  • Desire to consider how Fish can encourage greater diversity, equity, and inclusion at UP
  • Previous leadership experience not required but valued

Time commitment and required availability:

  • Weekly Core Team meeting (about 1 hour) and communication with team members during the week
  • Weekly Fish gathering, including preparation and wrap-up, as well as additional community events
  • Regular check-in with Campus Ministry advisor
  • Occasional team planning or team retreat days
  • Some summer communication in order to prepare for the upcoming fall semester
