“As an intern, I report on various sporting events throughout the Portland area, writing stories on everything from baseball to the Portland Timbers. I also write features on different sports figures in Portland and occasionally take photos that go in both the online and print editions of the Portland Tribune.
The Portland Tribune gave me the opportunity to learn the ropes of reporting on local sports. I’ve gained plenty of practical knowledge, including learning how to cut down my writing and improve my photography skills. The biggest thing I’ve learned is to not be afraid to ask questions and be proactive in getting the scoop you need. You’ll never get the answers you’re looking for if you don’t ask the right questions.
Practical experience helped me figure out what I want to do with my life and live that dream out. I don’t believe you can plan out your post-grad life without testing the waters with an internship or some form of field experience. After graduation, I hope to find another internship and then begin the job hunt working as a sports reporter.”University of Portland
