Summer Intern: Customer Service at First Insurance Company of Hawaii

Majors: Political Science and History, Constitutional Studies and Economics Minors

William Heyler“In my internship role, I assist the Personal Lines Underwriting: Customer Service Division. I largely did work involving insurance policies and processing data. First Insurance or “FICOH” is a large, historic company in Hawaii with over 300 employees. The culture there is amazing and after having a successful internship last summer, I decided to reapply. This year I learned several important things about the corporate world and what it is like to work in an office during a global pandemic, both skills that will be useful into the future.

My favorite moment of my internship was definitely grabbing lunch with the fellow interns while the COVID situation was still reasonable in Hawaii, sadly due to the recent surge in cases, we had to stop doing this. Nevertheless, I learned exciting things about my fellow interns and their experience as interns. I believe that internships help give undergraduates real-world experience that will teach them important skills not only for school, but for life. After graduation, I plan to hopefully attend graduate school or law school and pursue a career in Law or Government.”
