Our Career Management Model can help you navigate your career development now and throughout your lifelong career journey. It is a cyclical process that will strengthen your competency in career management and provides a framework for career readiness rooted in reflection and discernment.
The Career Management Model consists of three interdependent phases, explore, experience, and excel. It is common to move back and forth between phases as you grow, reflect, and gain experience. Get familiar with them during your time at UP to help you prepare for life after The Bluff.
Explore: College is a period of personal and intellectual growth. It is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of yourself. Take time to clarify your strengths, interests, and values. This phase will help you develop an internal compass to better navigate and narrow down your career ideas.
Experience: Experiential learning is an opportunity to practice what you are learning inside and outside the classroom in the real world. This can take the form of internships, community engagement, undergraduate research, clinical and practicum experiences, and many more. This phase will help you try out your career ideas and decide if they align with your strengths, interests, and values.
Excel: At some point you will need someone else to understand your strengths, interests, and experience. This might be during a job search or when applying to graduate school. This phase is your opportunity to make meaning of your unique talents and experience in order to articulate it in an effective way.
