The Career Education Center is here to guide you through the process of searching for a job. While it may feel intimidating or overwhelming to get started, there are a number of resources and tools to help you along the way. We recommend using this Job Search Action Plan and scheduling an appointment to receive customized support.
Where to Search: The Job Boards
Handshake is a platform managed by the Career Education Center (CEC) and it features a job board with opportunities for UP students and recent alumni. To learn how to login, please go to our Handshake login help page. Note that alumni who graduated before 2017 will need to contact us to set up an account.
On-Campus jobs are a great option for students to connect to the UP community without a commute. If you are interested in this, check out this student employment job board.
LinkedIn has more than 15 million open job listings; however, there are also many job boards that focus on a particular industry or geographic region. For example, Mac’s List only lists opportunities in Portland and Seattle.
Go Beyond the Online Postings
Many jobs are never posted, so it is incredibly important to make connections and build your network. If you are searching for a job and unsure how to connect with professionals in your industry/company/location of interest, we strongly recommend you look at our resources on Networking/Informational Interviews.
