I did not think much of it honestly. I figured this would be the same as always me on my own learning how to do things. My parents growing up had barely remembered anything from high school and it was up to me to learn things from scratch. If anything, being a FGEN student, I was ambitious to learn new things and dive into the open world. The fact that I am an FGEN student made me want to succeed and shoot for the best I can do.
Personally I feel great, being a part of this community is awesome. It is terrific to have so many people that are similar to me. Now to be a student ambassador and help other FGEN students is even greater. Now I able to welcome individuals into the communities that are just like me and help them feel welcomed. I think that the community that this college has developed is going to change the way students view college and it will now make them more involved. I cannot wait for the future of this program.
My advice to FGEN students that are facing challenges is to stick through it and work hard. The most important part to tackle a challenge is to work through it and if its really too hard take a break. Have some fun every once in awhile than get back to work. Or use “having fun” as a motivation to work through your challenges.
Yes, I suppose this one mentor did her job to make me feel welcomed into the community, although I felt like several others had made me feel welcomed into the UP community. From there, my mentor just continued to watch out for me like I was one of her own. Just the fact that she would ask how I'm doing and being there for me if I needed her really made me feel more welcomed.
Working out! I use the gym to relieve stress and have a good time playing basketball with friends.
