About the Exhibit by Fr. Mark:
It has been a good run. I have been teaching at the University of Portland for 20 years not and it is now time for me to go. As I leave I am having this one last public art show at the Buckley Center Gallery here on campus. I am showing both new and old art. I think that I have become more of an impressionist painter over the years. I find myself responding more and more to color and light. Here I am showing both new and old art. The new paintings are not framed, but many of the old ones are and have been seen before. I hope that you enjoy both the new and the older art, all of which have been painted in the last 20 years.
The new art contains many plein air acrylic paintings done on campus, including four paintings looking across the river toward Forrest Park. Three of them were painted from our new Shiley Marcos Building. You will also find some unframed watercolor paintings, an abstract wooden sculpture and an oil painting titled "Beauty and Conflict in the West". That oil painting was inspired by a trip to the Little Bighorn National Battle field.
...I have truly enjoyed the wonderful opportunity of teaching and creating art here at the University of Portland.
