Dr. Blair Woodard, UP History, discusses the history of Vietnamese and Cuban diplomacy through poster art and the maze of historical inquiry. Over more than half a century, Cuba and Vietnam have supported each other in myriad ways including popular depictions of each other through poster art. These posters praised each other’s revolutions, leadership, and victories against the United States. In attempting to uncover the history of this popular ephemeral dialogue, Dr. Woodard has often been led down unplanned pathways of both academic and personal discovery. This talk will be both an explanation of his research findings thus far, as well as the story of the often-serendipitous nature of historical research itself.
