The start of fall semester is coming up and we are excited for you to begin your life here on The Bluff. To help make your transition as smooth as possible, we put together this essential Pilot checklist of all the things you can do to get ready for your time here at UP.
The Back to The Bluff website is a hub of information and resources for students coming to campus. Be sure to check the site often for updates and plans for Fall 2020.
Your University of Portland ID card serves not only to identify you as a member of the UP community, it is also the key to your residence hall, offers access to the library and other academic buildings for after-hours study, serves as your meal ticket for on-campus dining, and gets you into on-campus athletic events.
New first-year and transfer students can upload photos and start the ID card process online. Your ID card will be ready for you when you arrive. Use this ID Card form to get started. Keep in mind, uploaded photos should be less than 20KB. Photos larger than this may be rejected.
Residential students will receive their cards at their residence halls, commuter students can pick up their cards at the Campus Safety Office located in Suite 100 in Haggerty Hall, 5415 N. Warren St. near the Chiles Center.
All new incoming students are registered for classes for their first term by their major school or college. Students will be registered for courses that satisfy their university core requirements, college requirements, and major requirements. Because of this, your schedule will be different depending on your major or school. Be sure to check your schedule for which classes will be online and which classes will be held on campus. The view your schedule site will show you how to view your schedule and determine which classes are online only. Learn more about class registration.
Before the start of the school year, students are required to complete several online modules to familiarize themselves with University rules regarding Covid-19 safety, Title IX, and drugs and alcohol. Keep an eye out for an email with instructions on how to complete the modules.
You can preorder your textbooks from the UP Bookstore. Online orders that are processed through Thursday, August 20, will be delivered to your dorm room. Students living off campus can have their books shipped to their homes. During this time, please do not come to the UP Bookstore to pick up your order.
Any orders processed after Thursday, August 20 will need to be picked up at the UP Bookstore on campus.
If you’re going to live on campus, your assigned room and roommate has been emailed to your UP email address with information on how to contact each other. Now’s a great time to get in touch if you haven’t already. Learn more about what makes each hall unique, get answers to your frequently asked questions, and take a look at what to pack.
Interested in working on campus? Many UP offices hire student workers. The Fall student job board opens on August 1. Remember to bring your necessary original paperwork and ID to become a student employee. Please contact studentemployment@up.edu for specific questions about student employment.
“Proxy access” provides an opportunity for UP students to allow family members or other designated individuals access to certain student information online, or to speak with specific departments regarding your education. The most common scenario for granting Proxy access is so that a family member can view your grades or tuition invoices via the UP Self Serve portal. The person being granted access to your information is referred to as the “proxy.” Discuss with your family what information you’re comfortable granting them access to and follow these steps carefully to get them set up in the UP Self Serve portal as a Proxy.
To ensure the well-being of our students, the University requires all full-time undergraduate students to carry medical insurance and be up-to-date on their immunizations. You’ll be automatically enrolled in a PacificSource Health Plan unless you complete an online Health Insurance Waiver, and you’ll need to show proof of your MMR vaccines. Check out these pages to find out more about the health insurance requirements and immunization requirements.
