A native of South Bend, Indiana, Fr. Mark Ghyselinck has long had connections to the Holy Cross community. Before coming to UP 20 years ago, he taught at Holy Cross College at Notre Dame and served at Holy Cross Parish in South Bend and Sacred Heart Parish on Notre Dame’s Campus. Joining UP’s Holy Cross community, Fr. Mark became a pillar of the Fine Arts program, leading countless fine arts classes and going on to become the Program Director. As an accomplished painter, Fr. Mark’s work has been shown at the Buckley Center gallery several times in his years on The Bluff, and has been featured in UP publications like Portland magazine and Writers magazine over the years. “In my soul I think I am an impressionist painter,” he says. “I’m attracted to a combination of color, light, and form and try to record what I’m looking at in paint.”
In addition to his teaching work, he has also served as the pastoral resident for Shipstad Hall. He will be returning to Indiana to be closer to friends and family in retirement — we will miss Fr. Mark’s joyful spirit and beautiful artwork on campus!
