Founders Day

Founders Day

Founders' Day is when the University of Portland pauses to celebrate its rich past and its promising future: the past as we honor the bold leaders who dared to dream of a Catholic university overlooking the Willamette River; the future as we learn from our most outstanding seniors whose research as undergraduates portends great things for the future.  In recognition of the importance of both the past and the future, the University holds no classes on a Tuesday in April and instead opens its doors to all to learn from our best and brightest students.
Commencement

Commencement

As is tradition, the University launches its graduates into the world on the first Sunday in May.  A free online stream of the ceremony is available for those that are unable to come to campus because of travel issues, illness, or disability. For more information on this and the other events and activities that celebrate our graduates, please go to the Commencement website.

ReadUP

ReadUP is University of Portland's annual celebration of literature in which the entire campus community — students, faculty, and staff — are invited and encouraged to read "one book together." Free copies of each year's selection are distributed by the Clark Library, and book discussion groups are formed in the residence halls and at faculty/staff brown bag lunches. The campaign culminates with a public lecture and discussion by the book's author, sponsored by the Schoenfeldt Distinguished Visiting Writers Series.
