Dr. Dakshina Murty Vuppuluri graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India in 1974, before moving to Norman, Oklahoma to obtain two master's degrees in Nuclear Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. Immediately after graduating, he went on to pursue a PhD in Engineering Mechanics at the University of Texas, Austin. He began his career at the University of Portland in 1981, when he was hired as an Assistant Professor at the Shiley School of Engineering. He received tenure in 1987 and was appointed Professor at the School of Engineering in 1993. Since then, he’s served as the Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering twice, from 1996-2002 and from 2003-2004. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and in his over 40 years at University of Portland, he has chaired countless faculty committees, curriculum committees, and teams.
