For your first term at the University of Portland, all students in the Shiley School of Engineering will be registered by the School of Engineering program counselor.
Take the Math Placement Exam: Engineering students who have not taken college calculus will need to take the math placement exam.
EGR 110: Intro to Engineering (2 credits)
One MATH course: MTH 112 (4 credits) - Pre-Calculus or MTH 201 - Calculus (4 credits) - or a higher level math if you have AP/IB or transfer credit for MTH 201. Starting with MTH 112 may extend your academic plan to five years. Check with your Program Counselor for more information.
One SCIENCE course: If you are taking MTH 112 (Pre-Calc) or MTH 201 (Calculus 1), you will take CHM 207/277 General Chemistry I Lecture and Lab (3 credits/1 credit). If you are taking Calculus II or a higher level Math course, you will take PHY 204/274 General Physics I Lecture and Lab (3 credits/1 credit)
CORE 101: (1 credit) - All first-year students are registered for an Anchor Seminar and Anchor Seminar Workshop.
Two University Core courses (6 credits)
Total = 16-17 Credits
Classes at UP are offered one, two, three, and sometimes four times a week. Labs for science courses meet once a week for a longer period of time, and are an additional 1 credit.
The typical class schedule for Computer Science majors is a little different. These students will take EGR 110, CS 203, CS 273, MTH 201, CORE 101, and one Core course.
