Earth Day at UP - How are you taking action?

Earth Day is Friday, April 22! There are several special events happening either on campus or in Portland that we wanted to share.

On Campus:

  • The SLUG Garden (at the corner of N. McKenna and N. Warren) is hosting an Earth Day Festival from 5:30pm until dark. Come eat some food and learn about sustainability efforts on and off of campus, including hosting a propagation swap, clothing exchange, and more!
  • Bon Appetit is "committed to a plant-forward future" and is celebrating Earth Day in the Commons and Pilot House! Check out their site for scavenger hunt and prizes. Information will also be on signage in both locations. Bon Appetit also has some great tips on eating a low-carbon diet.
  • Beginning April 18th, visit the Clark Library Covert Gallery for a photo research exhibit on the intersecting themes of economic, social, and environmental justice. The exhibit features work by the students of the spring 2022 "Organizing for Environmental Justice" class facilitated by Lizz Schallert, UP Social Work. Join us for a reception with the exhibitors at 11:30am on Thursday, April 21st in the Covert Gallery on the main floor of the Clark Library. Questions? Contact libraryevents@up.edu

Off Campus:

  • Love free swapping events? Head to St John's for The Great Exchange on Saturday April 23. Ridwell will be on hand to collect plastic film and clam shells.
  • Earth Day in Forest Park: Volunteer to remove non-native species (requires advance sign-up)
  • SOLVE lists Spring Cleanup events on April 23 including Pier Park in North Portland.
  • Head to SE Portland for an Earth Day celebration and youth fundraiser at Revolution Hall
  • Celebrate Earth Day by Bike with these organized rides!
