A Letter from the Dean of Admissions

I am pleased that you have taken time to learn about University of Portland and explore the opportunities available to you here on The Bluff. As you apply for admission to the University, I want to remind you about some of the benefits of a University of Portland education:

Matt Deschner
  • Small, personal classes taught by faculty, not teaching assistants.
  • A comprehensive University comprised of four professional schools – Business, Education, Engineering, and Nursing – and a College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Generous financial aid. For the 2023-24 academic year more than 99% of all full-time undergraduates received some sort of financial aid, and the average amount of financial aid awarded to incoming full-time first-year students, not including loans, was $44,075.
  • A rich and varied campus life—more than 100 student clubs, various volunteer service and immersion experiences, and academic and extracurricular activities every day of the week.
  • Values-centered education that is focused on your intellectual and spiritual growth.
  • A convenient location overlooking the city skyline, close to parks and unique neighborhoods, and just a short drive to the Oregon Coast, Mount Hood, and the Columbia River Gorge.

At University of Portland you will find an engaged, passionate, and thoughtful community of students, faculty, and staff. Our Catholic community and hands-on teaching philosophy will help prepare you not only for a career, but for your life ahead. I hope that you can join us on The Bluff for your studies.

Sincerely,

Matthew Deschner
Dean of Admissions
