A Letter from our President

Father Mark Poorman, CSC

I am delighted that you are interested in the University of Portland, and I hope what you find here leads you to apply for admission at Oregon’s Catholic University.  A University of Portland education is a uniquely personal experience. Here on The Bluff, we are devoted to educating both the minds and hearts of our students, and we do so in a collegiate setting that is an intimate community of diverse students,  first-rate faculty, and dedicated staff.

The virtues of the University are many: strong residence hall communities, small classes, wide choices of courses and majors, opportunities to grow spiritually, a beautiful campus, and easy access to both downtown Portland and the lush natural beauties of Oregon's mountains, forests, and coast.  What I would emphasize most of all about the University, though, is its attention to the student as an individual person. Here you will know your professors and classmates, and they will know you.

For these and other reasons, we are recognized as one of the finest institutions in the American West.  The University of Portland has been consistently ranked as one of the top 10 universities in the west region and one of the top 10 “best values” in the west by U.S. News and World Report.  UP was also recently ranked by Bloomberg Businessweek as the “top school in Oregon for return on investment.”

We would love to have you as part of this outstanding learning community.  I sincerely hope you’ll join us.

Rev. Mark L. Poorman, C.S.C.
President
