We will grant credit if you receive a 4 or 5 on the AP exam. Depending on your score and your intended major, awarded credit may waive a class, put you into the next course level, or count as elective credit. The Office of the Registrar has created a table with all transferable AP courses, their credit amount, and equivalent courses at UP.
**Under the new testing guidelines created in response to COVID-19, any student who received a 4 or 5 on the new AP exam will receive credit. If you have any questions, please email your admissions counselor.
We award credit for each individual course if you receive a 5, 6, or 7 on a Higher Level test. The Office of the Registrar has created a table with all transferable IB courses, their credit amount, and equivalent courses at UP.
**Since IB tests were canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19, students who earn a B or higher in at least one semester of an HL class will earn 3 or 4 UP credits depending on the HL course. If you have any questions, please email your admissions counselor. This is for 2020 testing only.
Students with dual enrollment should use the first-year application. University of Portland will evaluate college courses for credit transfer with grades of C or higher and 100-level or above.
Review our Block Transfer Credit policy if you plan to complete an associate degree before graduating from high school. If you are taking dual enrollment courses and will not complete an associate degree, check our Course-Level Transfer Credit policy. For questions and guidance, please email your admissions counselor.
Review our Block Transfer Credit policy if you have, or plan to complete, an associate degree before graduating from high school. If you earn college credit during high school or after you graduate and have not completed and associate degree for transfer, check our Course-Level Transfer Credit policy. For questions and guidance, please please email your admissions counselor.
Search the Transfer Equivalency System (TES) to see how credits will transfer in to UP from specific courses you have completed at another college (e.g. through Running Start or concurrent enrollment while enrolled in high school). Please be aware that the equivalencies in TES are determined as we receive students' transcripts; some institutions may only have a few courses listed. The database is not a complete list of all the courses that may be accepted for credit at University of Portland.
These guides and course equivalencies are intended to be used as preparation tools for prospective applicants. These tools are not a substitute for an official evaluation of credit and do not constitute a guarantee of transfer credit award. The information posted here and in the TES database are subject to change at any time.
