Subject: What can a CSC Catholic Priest teach college students about social justice & civic leadership today?
Body:
It turns out quite a lot. Fr. Ted Hesburgh was the president of Notre Dame, the famous university that was founded by the same religious order as University of Portland, the Congregation of Holy Cross.
Join the University of Portland and our local Congregation of Holy Cross brothers and friends for this Portland exclusive screening of the film "Hesburgh,” which highlights topics like leadership, diversity, inclusion, and social activism through the story of Fr. Ted Hesburgh, CSC.
This is especially relevant in a potentially-divisive Presidential Election Year and in recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Fr. Hesburgh worked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others to advocate for its passage across diverse ideological obstacles.
Join us in learning the blueprint for embodying respect, civility, and love even when we may vehemently disagree with each other.

Subject: [Hesburgh Film] You are cordially invited. . .
… to Hesburgh, the Movie!
Meet Fr. Ted Hesburgh, C.S.C. in this modern biopic, all about a man who (worked with the likes of MLK, JFK, and LBJ and) put his faith into action (and how you can, too).
In recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, this film highlights topics of leadership, diversity, inclusion, and social activism. It offers a much-needed roadmap for our times (in a potentially divisive United States election season) on how to build bridges across diverse ideological stances and political views.
This is our heritage as UP Pilots with “hope to bring” by ‘crossing borders of every sort.”

Subject: Ever wonder how we can disagree on tough topics & still respect & even love each other?
In a world full of polarizing and emotionally-charged issues (like poverty, the death penalty, Pro Life vs Pro Choice, Religion, Universal healthcare, houselessness, racism, and LGBTQIA2S+ concerns, to name a few) that seem to drive us further and further apart every day, what hope is there to find common ground and build a better world together?
Former president of the University of Notre Dame and priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross Fr. Ted Hesburgh believed that universities should be on the front lines of Civic Engagement and Social Justice.
We do, too. Come and See!
Join the UP community on Tuesday, April 16 at 6 PM to view together Hesburgh, a film about a man who showed by example that it is possible for "differences of culture and religion and conviction (to) co-exist with friendship, civility, hospitality, respect and love; a place where the endless conversation is harbored and not foreclosed."
