Political science professor Lauretta Frederking appointed associate provost of University of Portland

Lauretta Frederking, a political science professor at the University of Portland, has been appointed associate provost effective July 1. Frederking served as interim assistant provost during the fall 2015 semester and currently serves as chair of the University’s Department of Political Science, director of the Social Justice Program, and is also the University’s Title IX coordinator. 

In her new role, Frederking will work in the areas of Title IX, faculty contracts and support, special projects, and summer school administration. She will serve on the Dean’s Council and will be a member of the President’s Leadership Cabinet. Frederking will also maintain the teaching expectations for all academic administrators.

Frederking has been at the University for 14 years and was promoted to professor in 2015. Her scholarly works include Reconstructing Social Justice (Routledge, 2014) and Hemingway on Politics and Rebellion, ed. (Routledge, 2010), plus numerous book chapters, articles, and scholarly presentations. She has served on numerous committees, including the Presidential Advisory Committee on Inclusion, the Presidential Ad Hoc Committee on the Philippines, the Presidential Committee for NCAA Accreditation, the Presidential Tsunami Relief Committee (2004-5), and the Garaventa Advisory Council.

Her service has extended to the wider community, including participation as a member of the executive board of the Pacific Northwest Political Science Association, and as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activities.
