(Portland, OR) – The family of the late Kyle E. Johnson ’05 has expanded their bequest to a memorial scholarship named in his honor. Keith Johnson and his wife Jane Bodenweiser recently informed the University of Portland of an additional gift of approximately $1.5 million to the Kyle E. Johnson Memorial Scholarship. The funds will be held in trust and will transfer to the University as part of Keith Johnson’s estate.

The scholarship was originally launched in 2006 to ensure the memory of Kyle, who passed away shortly after graduating from UP in 2005, would live on publicly in perpetuity and would benefit future students at the university he loved.

Kyle’s memorial service in September 2005 was filled with members of the UP community, a tribute which was not lost on his parents, Keith and the late Nancy Johnson. It became apparent to them how meaningful Kyle’s time at the University had been to him.

They funded the Kyle E. Johnson Memorial Scholarship in 2006 with an initial investment of $50,000. The annual scholarship is available to a student who has inadequate personal resources to continue their education at UP.
