The American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) has honored Eric Daniel Arakawa with the 2016 Edmund Friedman Young Engineer Award for Professional Achievement. Eric was recognized for professional achievement in service to the advancement of the profession, evidence of technical competence, high character and integrity, and contributions to public service outside their careers.

As part of the Hawaii Younger Member Forum Student Engineering Night, Arakawa developed a construction engineering activity that incorporated different aspects of the construction industry. The activity was restructured for fifth-grade students and incorporated points based on the speed with which they worked, the height of their tower, and the amount of Lego pieces used. Arakawa and other YMF members also have assisted with recent Special Olympics soccer and bocce tournaments.

He has received the City of Honolulu Good Neighbor Award for three years in a row, and in 2012, he received the ASCE Public Service Award.
