“It is gratifying to see how our program’s reputation has improved, with our peer institutions now recognizing us in the top 30 engineering schools in the nation,” said Sharon A. Jones, dean of the Shiley School of Engineering. “Our mission is to educate future engineers and computer scientists who graduate not only with technical excellence, but with a sense of social responsibility that will inspire them to solve some of the most challenging issues facing society.”

About the Methodology
The U.S. News & Word Report undergraduate engineering program rankings were based solely on peer assessment surveys. To appear on an undergraduate engineering survey, a school must have an undergraduate engineering program accredited by ABET, a nonprofit, non-governmental organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

Shiley School of Engineering
The Donald P. Shiley School of Engineering at the University of Portland prepares engineers and computer scientists to solve technical problems that affect society. The School offers undergraduate degrees in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, as well as computer science. Professional graduate degrees are offered in biomedical engineering, as well as a customized engineering masters plan. Coursework and projects emphasize teamwork, experimentation, and innovation integrated with theory, analysis, and design to prepare students to become technological leaders in the 21st century.

The Shiley School is a member of the National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenge Scholars Program (GCSP) and the first institution of higher education in Oregon to join the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN), a small group of universities working together to help engineering students graduate with an entrepreneurial mindset. Recent undergraduates have received Fulbright and NSF Graduate fellowships and graduates routinely outperform their peers on the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, the first of a two-step process to becoming professionally licensed.
