The University of Portland established new records of charitable giving during the 24-hour event known as Giving Tuesday on November 27, 2018, including 741 gifts and a total raised of $194,744 —an 89% increase in total amount raised from 2017. The one-day campaign is important to the University’s end of year fundraising efforts and is a warm-up to the annual #PilotsGive campaign in April 2019.

During the 24-hour period, the University’s Development office led a campus-wide effort which raised $180,753 from 554 gifts and pledges from 538 donors for the day. The results were a 38% increase over the number of donors for Giving Tuesday 2017 and beat the team’s goal of reaching 400 gifts. This included a record 163 new donors who gave to UP for the first time on that day. In addition, 210 Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) donors contributed $14,021 through a Pre-Giving Tuesday Drive.

“Most every member of the immediate team was new to the event and/or their role at the University,” said Amy Eaton, Director of Development, “and together they pulled off a record-breaking year for Giving Tuesday.”

The Giving Tuesday campaign, which focuses heavily on the University’s social media channels to raise awareness, build enthusiasm, and promote contributions, is a collaboration of the Development, Marketing & Communications, and Information Services departments, with additional support from Pilot Athletics.
