$100K Challenge Venture Competition Results Are In: 2019 Winners

The Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation’s annual $100K Challenge Venture Competition took place on Saturday, April 27. The competition was separated into three categories. The Invention category highlights creativity, invention and innovation, with the winning participants moving on the Statewide InventOR Competition; the Social Enterprise category encourages students to solve social challenges using an entrepreneurial mindset with surpluses from operations mainly benefiting the cause; and the Venture category highlights student ventures that seek to create value for investors, Founders and employees, while successfully meeting a customer need.

After deliberation by expert panels of alumni and community judges, the winners are:

Invention

1st Place: Clear View, a dental mirror system allowing for less fogging and improved visibility during dental procedures by Alex Baek ’19

2nd Place: Trail Hungry, a compact hydration, food storage, and storage system for backcountry camping by Adam Babuka ’19 

Social Enterprise 

1st Place: Street Cloud, a network that provides a portal of information and resources to the houseless community in Multnomah County, via cellphone, public kiosk and website for easy access and cross referral by Dominique Gillis ’20

2nd Place:  Lock and Dry which partners with laundromats and their customers to offer free laundry service to homeless and other disadvantaged populations via their leave and lock locker system by Tannar Sandaine ’20 and Lucas Cummings ’19

3rd Place: Kokua Kit, a monthly kit to stimulate brain training and caregiver supporter for dementia patients with a focus on the unique needs of the Hawaii healthcare system by Julia Kimoto ’20

Venture

1st Place: Earthix, an enhanced immersive virtual tour environment allowing universities to highlight their student experience improving admissions yield and retention rates by Devin Ajimine ’19 and Pouya Rad ’19

2nd Place:  Moolah, an money management and investing app targeting millennials and Gen Z that leveraged an AI investment algorithm by Brandon Wester ’19

3rd Place: Recipeasy, a website offering allowing consumers to identify the ingredients to have on hand to find recipes and meals that can be created, thereby minimizing food waste and expense by Brenna Chapman ’19
