Awards and Rankings

July 29, 2019

According to Kiplinger's Best College Values 2019, the University of Portland is the top ranked private university in Oregon for offering the best value for students based on academic quality, cost, and financial aid measures. The University was ranked 51st last year, rising three spots in the latest rankings among all private universities nationwide. The University of Portland has been the top-ranked private Oregon university for the past nine consecutive years; and has been ranked in the top 100 nationally since Kiplinger's began releasing its rankings of "Best Value Colleges."

The editors at Kiplinger’s Personal Finance  gather data from nearly 1,200 public and private four-year schools. The list is narrowed to the top schools based on measures of academic quality – including SAT or ACT scores; admission and retention rates; student-faculty ratios; and graduation rates. The editors then rank the schools using cost and financial aid measures. Academic quality carries more weight than costs in determining a final ranking.

Kiplinger's Personal Finance offers advice on managing money and achieving financial security, paying for college, and major purchases like automobiles and homes. The magazine has been published since 1947.

The full rankings are now available online at kiplinger.com/links/colleges and will appear in print in the September 2019 issue of Kiplinger’s on August 13.
