August 21, 2019
First-year students arrive on campus and move into residence hall on Thursday, August 22 beginning at 9 a.m.
Students and their family members will be greeted by returning students at all nine of the residence halls with welcome signs and decorations as they carry in suitcases, comforters, computers, and other comforts from home.
Included in this year’s welcome events are: Rojo the Llama, who will make an appearance in front of Fields and Schoenfeldt Hall from 10 - 11 a.m.; Portland Police dogs, who will visit Villa Maria Hall from 10:00-noon; and the setting off of a confetti cannon in front of Shipstad Hall by University president Fr. Mark Poorman, C.S.C. at noon. From 1 - 4 p.m., the Pilot House will be the gathering spot for weary parents to relax afterwards.
This year’s class of approximately 1,000 first-year students, will again be one of the largest classes in University history. Official enrollment figures will be confirmed in mid-September.
As in past years, the Class of 2023, is highly accomplished, with an unweighted high school GPA average of 3.65 and an average SAT score of 1250.
The class also represents a diverse group of students – 78% of them are from outside of Oregon, primarily California, Washington, and Hawaii, and 47% self-identify as underrepresented (based on race and ethnicity).
Orientation activities continue throughout the weekend. On Friday, August 22 at 9 a.m., University president Fr.
