A Message to the University of Portland Community

The following message was sent to the University of Portland community on March 17, 2021
Dear University of Portland Community Members,
Like so many around the nation, we are deeply disturbed and disheartened by the recent rise in violence and discrimination targeting the Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities. Xenophobia is an affront to our shared belief that all persons are children of God who possess inherent dignity. As a Catholic, Holy Cross institution, we condemn violence and discrimination, we pray for those victimized by hatred and intolerance, and we commit ourselves to building a more just and equitable world.
We stand in solidarity with the Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander members of our own UP community. We invite all Pilots to join us in rejecting racism, xenophobia, and all forms of white supremacy. Further, we offer the resources below to community members who may be in need of education and support.
Today and always, may we unite in prayer and in action for a world free from violence, hatred, and intolerance.
