Did you know that the Health and Counseling Center (HCC) is open to all students and offers a range of care and services, not just COVID-related? Throughout the semester, the team at HCC has been serving the community through outreach, wellness education, and offering appointments, both in-person and virtual, to students who need primary care or mental health resources and counseling.

HCC can help students with a variety of illnesses and injuries—anything you would see your primary care provider for. To schedule an appointment, call 503.943.7134 or email hcc@up.edu. Appointments are available every day, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and after hours. Once students reach out, HCC staff will help guide them to the right type of appointment for their need. All appointments are free, for part-time or full-time, on-campus or off, graduate or undergraduate students.

For mental health resources, individual counseling appointments are available via phone or Zoom. Same-day appointments are available for urgent mental health concerns. Schedule a counseling appointment the same you would a primary care appointment—call 503.943.7134 or email hcc@up.edu. In case of a mental or physical health emergency, call 911 and alert Campus Safety right away.

Unfortunately, HCC cannot directly provide care to students who live out of state. Because they are licensed in Oregon, the providers can only provide care to the patients who are in-state. But if you live out of state, abundant resources are available on the HCC website for connecting with mental health professionals in your area. And HCC staff are always happy to help any student wherever they are with insurance questions, or walk them through the steps to find a care provider in their area.

For those in-state students who need care, there are even more openings available thanks to the addition of a new provider, Joe Buck. Joe is a physician’s assistant with experience in urgent care. He’s worked with UP before for temporary contracts, and now the HCC is thrilled to welcome him to a permanent position to help students who need care.

Of course, the HCC continues to provide dedicated care to students with COVID-related concerns. If you’d like to seek care for COVID-related concerns, call or email the health center, or you can schedule directly by following the instructions on the HCC homepage.
