Dr. Nicole Ralstondoughty.jpegNicole Ralston, College of Education; Tim Doughty, School of Engineering; and Heather Dillon at the University of Washington Tacoma, were awarded a four-year grant from the Kern Family Foundation related to the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN network) which is a community of more than 3,000 engineering faculty and staff across North America who aim to graduate engineers with an entrepreneurial mindset (EM). EM engineers are then able to create personal, economic, and societal value through a lifetime of meaningful work. This $240,000 grant is entitled “Cooperative eMerging Partnership for Assessment Support and Success of the 3Cs,” COMPASS for short, and involves further collaboration with faculty at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, The Ohio State University, and Western New England University. In its first year, the grant funds have already allowed investigators to create an advisory board of experts including industry partners, conduct interviews regarding KEEN network assessment practices, and conduct an extensive literature review. The team’s data analysis work will lead to greater assessment impact of the EM mindset and KEEN’s thousands of ready-to-use resources that cover a wide range of engineering disciplines.
