The Congregation of Holy Cross, United States Province of Priests and Brothers has honored University of Portland Assistant Professor Kelly Fox with a 2023 Spirit of Holy Cross Award, conferred upon lay collaborators in the U.S. and abroad who “make God known, loved, and served” in education, parish and mission settings.   fox_kelly_sohni_300.jpg

Fox, who teaches in the UP School of Nursing & Health Innovations (UPSONHI), also serves as the institution’s Assistant to Dean for Innovation, and Director of the Harrington Health Clinic at Blanchet House.  She is one of nine 2023 Spirit of Holy Cross recipients in the United States Province —recognized by the Congregation for acting “as complimentary partners in living out the vision and mission of Holy Cross founder Blessed Basil Moreau.”

“I am humbled and feel extreme gratitude as a recipient of the Spirit of Holy Cross Award,” said Fox. “As a past UP student and a current faculty member, Blessed Basil Moreau's vision and the Holy Cross mission have been — and continue to be — guiding forces in my personal and professional journey.”

Fox’s approach of emphasizing RN-led, employee-centered care was a key factor in the development of Corporate Health NW and Healthcare Professionals of Portland PC, two practices that served as foundational models in her Scholarship of Practice at UPSONHI. The integration of design thinking in nursing curricula and employee-centered models of care — utilizing on-site nursing care and telehealth — served as the framework for the development and implementation of the Harrington Health Clinic, Foot Clinic and Holy Cross Clinic.

Recent members of the UP community to receive The Spirit of the Holy Cross Award include Vice Provost Elise Moentmann, PhD and Brenda Greiner, Director of the Shepard Academic Resource Center. The Spirit of Holy Cross Award honorees for 2023 will be recognized in January in their local communities as part of Congregation of Holy Cross celebrations of Blessed Moreau’s life.
