On Sept. 5, UP President Robert D. Kelly, PhD visited St. Mary’s Academy in Downtown Portland to formally sign the first Moreau Pathway agreement with Oregon’s all-girls, Catholic, college prep high school. Seven more Oregon high schools have followed suit—Jesuit, Central Catholic, La Salle Prep, De La Salle North, Marist, Valley Catholic, and Blanchett Catholic. Seton Catholic in Vancouver, Wash. brings the running total of participating schools to nine.

“We are thrilled to launch the Moreau Pathway Program with our high school partners,” Kelly said. “While we’re blessed to educate students from across the globe, we feel a special commitment to Pilots from Oregon and Southwest Washington. The Moreau Pathway Program will enable us to welcome even more high-achieving graduates of nearby Catholic high schools and offer them a transformational Holy Cross education.”

A first-of-its-kind offering for local Catholic high schools, UP’s Moreau Pathway Program proactively admits high school seniors who meet specific criteria—removing the complexity of the college application process by guaranteeing college enrollment.

Seniors in good standing at participating Catholic high schools who carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average receive direct admission and a guarantee of benefits, including scholarships, direct entry into their chosen academic program, early consideration for the UP honors program, and early access to select campus housing.

“St. Mary’s Academy is thrilled to participate in the University of Portland’s Moreau Pathway Program—a unique opportunity to streamline the college admissions process, provide direct access to the exemplary programs UP provides, and encourage our young women to continue to pursue a Catholic education in our city,” said St. Mary’s Academy President Emily Becker. “This program helps strengthen faith-based education and ensures that together we infuse our communities with values-based future leaders our world needs.”

Beyond the first nine pilot partnerships, UP Vice President of Enrollment Management Mai Nhia Xiong-Chan says the University is excited to measure the success of the Moreau Pathway Program for possible further expansion to other high schools in and around Oregon.

“We are here to simplify the admission process, provide affordable options, and remove anxiety around applying to college,” said Xiong-Chan. “This program will do that—offering guaranteed scholarships and clearing a path for these outstanding students to get a head start on their college dreams.”

Xiong-Chan says high school seniors who apply to colleges via the Common Application remain eligible to receive Moreau Pathway benefits from UP. The direction admission program is underway for high school seniors planning to enter college in the Fall of 2025.
