Alvin A. Sturdivant, EdD, joined the University of Portland in 2025 as the institution's inaugural Vice President for Student Affairs & Inclusive Excellence. In this role, Sturdivant leads UP's Division of Student Affairs, including Campus Ministry, Campus Safety & Emergency Management, the Moreau Center for Service & Justice, Residence Life, Student Activities, the Student Health & Counseling Center, the Student Wellness Center, and the Center for Gender & Sexuality. Sturdivant also guides institution-wide initiatives to promote inclusive excellence and foster a sense of belonging for all members of the Pilot community.
Prior to joining UP, Sturdivant served as Vice Provost for Student & Campus Life at Seattle University. His career has also included senior leadership and teaching positions at Saint Louis University, the University of Vermont, and North Carolina State University. He earned his BA and MEd at NC State, and his EdD at the University of Vermont.
Colin Stewart grew up in the Pacific Northwest and is a dynamic and transformative leader with 18 years of distinguished experience in Student Affairs. With a strong foundation in Catholic higher education, Colin has successfully led Housing and Residence Life, Student Conduct, Student Activities, Leadership Programs, Student Unions, Campus Recreation, Theatres, and Multicultural Student Engagement. His strategic initiatives have revolutionized campus life through large signature events, student unions, men’s success programs, artificial intelligence, leadership development, and pioneering esports initiatives.
Colin's unwavering dedication to inclusion and creativity is evident throughout his professional journey. He holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Illinois State University and a M.Ed. in Student Development Administration from Seattle University. He is also a co-editor of the influential book Disruptive Transformation: Leading Creative and Innovative Teams in Higher Education. At the University of Portland, Colin is excited to leverage his extensive experience and passion for creating exceptional student and staff experiences to support and enrich the university community.
