The Care Team was created and designed as a safety net and resource for any student of concern who does not seem to be receiving adequate attention within the existing structures on campus already. When appropriate, someone from the Care Team will do direct outreach to students to offer assistance. We provide information to students about the resources available to them both on- and off-campus. The Care Team will monitor students’ progress, until such time as we feel the appropriate people or departments are dealing effectively with the students’ needs.
If you are concerned about a student and you need guidance or support with how to move forward you may consult the Getting the Right Help for Students Handout which shows the resources you can contact to get students the right help.
To share a concern with the Care Team please submit a Care Team Referral.
If you have general questions, comments, or concerns about the Care Team program or filing an incident report, email careteam@up.edu

After you submit a Care Team Referral they are reviewed by the Associate Director for Student Care. After a referral is received and reviewed a member of the Care Team will reach out to you to learn more about the situation. If appropriate, the next step is for a member of the Care Team to reach out to the student of concern to offer support and connection to appropriate resources.
When possible, please let the student you are concerned about know that you are submitting a Care Team Referral. By doing this, you are communicating to the student that you care about them and their well being and would like to connect them to campus resources.
Below is an example of an email that you can send to a student before submitting a Care Team Referral:
"Thank you for sharing this with me. It sounds like you may be going through a difficult time. I want to do what I can do to connect you to UP resources. I have asked someone from the Care Team to reach out to you. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns."
