Loan Applications

Most students have loans included in their financial aid packages. The types of loans included will depend on your eligibility. Check your financial aid award to determine which loans you have been offered. Then use the instructions below to complete the application process for those loans. Please visit the Loans section of our website for more details on the loans listed below. 

Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan

• Accept the loan in Self Serve Banner.
• Complete Loan Entrance Counseling*.
• Complete a Loan Agreement for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan (MPN)*.

*Only required for first-time borrowers at University of Portland.

Direct Parent PLUS Loan

• Accept the loan in Self Serve Banner.
• Have your parent complete a Parent PLUS Loan Application, which includes a credit check.
• Have your parent sign a complete a Loan Agreement for a PLUS Loan (MPN).

Direct Graduate PLUS Loan

• Accept the loan via Self Serve Banner;
• Complete a Graduate PLUS Loan Application, which includes a credit check.
• Complete Loan Entrance Counseling*.
• Complete a Loan Agreement for a PLUS Loan (MPN)*.

*Only required for first-time borrowers at University of Portland.

Private Education Loans

Please carefully consider exhausting Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loan options before borrowing a private educational loan. You will not see a private loan on your award until you apply with a lender and that lender notifies our office that the application is complete and approved. The application process for private loans varies by lender. Check with your lender to clarify their application procedures. See Private Education Loans for further information.
